John's desire to serve Manatee County as one of our Commissioners is a natural extension of his active involvement in our community and various civic organizations. From the Boy Scouts of America to the United Negro College Fund, John's volunteer work has been selfless.
John has been married for 33 years to Patricia Colon. Their son Felipe worked for The Republican National Committee in Washington, Virginia and Maryland before becoming a Portfolio Manager and Financial Advisor for Wells Fargo Advisors in Sarasota.
John Colon has been an active political figure in state Republican politics for over 11 years. Governor Rick Scott appointed him to the Republican Party of Florida Executive Committee (Tallahassee) in 2011. John was a delegate to the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York City and an alternate delegate in 2008 to the Convention in Minnesota. He has been a member of the Manatee County Executive Committee since 2003.
